Microsoft Azure Data Center Outage Leads to Access Disruption Across Microsoft 365/Xbox and More
According to a message posted by the Microsoft 365 Status official X/Twitter account, Microsoft 365 services have experienced an access disruption. The affected services include, but are not limited to, various Microsoft 365 applications and Microsoft Xbox games.
Microsoft has reported that users may be unable to access Microsoft 365 apps and services as well as OneDrive, affecting both personal and business versions of OneDrive during this period.
The cause of the disruption was a fault at a Microsoft Azure cloud computing service data center located in the central United States, impacting the connectivity of some Microsoft 365 services. Microsoft's current strategy is to reroute traffic to other unaffected regions in an attempt to restore service.
After rerouting the traffic, the availability of Microsoft 365 services is gradually recovering. However, the deployment of this strategy requires some time to fully take effect, and some users may still experience issues when accessing the services.
As for Microsoft Azure, the exact time for a complete fix is currently unknown. According to Microsoft, the root cause of the fault has been identified, and services are expected to gradually recover over the next 90 minutes.
Here is the outage timeline:
Start time: July 18, 2024, 21:56 UTC+0
Last update: July 19, 2024, 01:35 UTC+0
Microsoft will update the status again in 60 minutes. Regardless of whether the issue has been mitigated by then, Microsoft will publish the latest status. Affected users may try accessing Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, and Xbox games again after waiting for half an hour to an hour.
