Microsoft Retires Paint 3D App from Store, Admitting Lack of User Interest
When the Windows 10 Creators Update was released, Microsoft launched the Paint 3D app alongside the system, developed from the classic Paint application. This app was designed for viewing, creating, and modifying 3D content.
Initially, Microsoft had high hopes for the app. At the time, technologies like virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) were trending, and providing 3D content was equally buzzworthy, which led to the development of Paint 3D.
Ironically, Microsoft even considered removing the classic Paint application to only retain Paint 3D. However, after receiving substantial feedback from users, Microsoft decided to keep both applications, allowing users to choose according to their needs.
As time went on, Paint 3D turned out to be more of a passing fad, briefly capturing the attention of some creators at launch, but failing to interest the average consumer.
Due to the scant usage over the following years, Microsoft decided to discontinue Paint 3D. It has now been removed from the Microsoft Store (though it can still be downloaded via the web). The app will no longer receive support or maintenance.
Users who have already installed Paint 3D can continue to use it, and those who haven't can still install it using an offline installer found online. However, it's important to note that this is a discontinued app, which means it will not receive any updates or new features, making its continued use somewhat pointless.
