Microsoft Investigates OneDrive for Mac Freezing Issues during File Operations
Microsoft is currently investigating an issue where OneDrive for Mac may freeze or hang when opening or saving files, specifically affecting users on macOS Sequoia 15.x. Microsoft has acknowledged receiving user feedback confirming that the problem is isolated to macOS version 15.x.
The exact cause of the issue remains unclear, with a temporary workaround involving forcibly ending OneDrive related processes and restarting the application, which may temporarily restore OneDrive functionality.
If experiencing a freeze during file saving, try the following steps:
- Open Activity Monitor (found in Applications, Utilities folder).
- Use the search bar in the top right corner of Activity Monitor to find "OpenAndSavePanelService" and select it from the process list. The process may be unresponsive or using a high amount of CPU.
- Select the process and click the X button at the top to force quit, then restart OneDrive and try saving the file in a different folder location.
If the freezing occurs when opening files, follow the same steps to force quit the process. After restarting OneDrive, move the file you need to open from the desktop to another folder, which should allow the file to be opened successfully.
Users on macOS 14 or lower versions should not be affected by this issue. It is currently unclear whether the problem lies with the macOS system itself or if there is a compatibility issue with OneDrive.
