Microsoft's blog post declares 2025 as the year of the Windows 11 PC update, with millions expected to transition to new PCs
The controversy over Windows 11 hardware requirements continues, despite industry opposition to Microsoft's imposition of hardware limitations that leave many older devices behind. Microsoft remains indifferent, not planning to extend Windows 10 support time or relax hardware restrictions.
Conversely, 2025 marks a turning point for both Microsoft and the Windows 11 system, as the end of support for Windows 10 in October 2025 could prompt millions of users to purchase new devices.
In its latest blog post, Microsoft states that now is the time to switch to a new Windows 11 PC, regardless of whether the current PC needs an update, or if there are security vulnerabilities that require the latest hardware support for protection.
Microsoft anticipates a significant number of users will migrate from older operating systems to Windows 11 in 2025, purchasing Copilot+PCs equipped with the latest processors from Intel, AMD, or Qualcomm. Regardless, the end of support for Windows 10 serves as the biggest motivation for upgrading and acquiring new devices.
Microsoft and analysts predict a major update wave for Windows 11, citing a June 2024 report by IDC that forecasts 80% of enterprises will update their PCs by the end of 2025, with 70% of customers planning to update their PCs within the next two years.
In 2025, Microsoft will commit to advancing artificial intelligence systems further, enabling more users to utilize AI. Users can also expect more AI-related features, security enhancements, and other improvements to the operating system.
Finally, this PC update wave could lead to significant sales growth for OEMs, all of which are prepared to launch a variety of SKUs to cater to consumers with different budgets.
