Google's Update to Pixel 4A Results in Battery Issues, Offers Free Battery Replacement or $50 Compensation
Google unexpectedly rolled out a system update to its older Pixel 4A model this week, which was aimed at addressing stability issues with battery performance according to the update log. However, the reality turned out to be quite the opposite, as the update significantly reduced battery life.
Following user feedback, Google initiated an investigation and confirmed the issue. In a new support document on the Pixel 4A Battery Performance Plan page, Google mentioned that some devices experienced various changes in battery performance after the update.
For instance, users might notice a noticeable decrease in the time between charges, reduced charging performance, and changes in the battery capacity indicator on their phones, reflecting a decrease in the remaining battery life.
The software update in question was Android 13 for the Pixel 4A, a model considered relatively old among Android devices, having been released in August 2020, now over three years old.
Given the impracticality of resolving the issue through another software update at this point, Google has decided to offer affected users a choice of solutions, including a free battery replacement.
Google has three options available: a free battery replacement for the Pixel 4A through Google, a $50 cash payout directly from Google, or 100 Google Store voucher towards the purchase of a new Pixel device.
