Micron's Crucial Launches the Crucial P510 SSD: Leveraging PCIe 5.0 for Blazing Speeds
At CES 2025, while CPUs and GPUs from Intel, AMD, and Nvidia garnered much attention, storage device manufacturers like Crucial also made headlines with new products such as solid-state drives (SSDs). However, these launches may not have received as much spotlight.
The latest from Crucial is the Crucial P510 Gen5 SSD. As indicated by its name, this SSD utilizes the PCIe 5.0 protocol, offering faster read and write speeds compared to its PCIe 4.0 counterparts.
Detailed technical specifications are yet to be released, but Crucial has revealed that this SSD can achieve read speeds of up to 11,000MB/s and write speeds up to 9,500MB/s, making it a solid mid-range PCIe 5.0 SSD.
Given its performance, the price point is expected to be reasonable. After all, if the cost were too high, consumers might opt for competing products offering read speeds of up to 14,000MB/s.
Crucial also disclosed that the P510 has a 25% lower power consumption compared to other PCIe 5.0 SSDs in its lineup and comes with an integrated heatsink. This feature helps reduce temperatures under heavy loads, allowing for longer durations of peak performance without the need for an additional cooling vest.
As for the type of NAND flash used, details will only be clear once the product officially hits the market. However, it's unlikely to use QLC flash, suggesting a standard TLC SSD.
The Crucial P510 SSD will be available only in 1TB and 2TB capacities, with no 512GB or 4TB versions announced. It remains to be seen if Crucial will expand its storage options in the future.
