Microsoft Fixes Freezing Issue When Copying Content and Issues Adding Google Gmail Accounts in Outlook (Win32 Version)
This week, Microsoft has released or is about to release updates across various channels to fix a longstanding issue in the classic version of Outlook (i.e., the Win32 version), where copying content could cause the application to freeze. Microsoft is making another attempt to rectify this problem.
Another issue addressed is the inability to properly add Google Gmail accounts. When attempting to add an account, users may encounter the message: "We couldn’t log on to the incoming (POP/IMAP) server. Please check your email address and password and try again."
Sometimes, users might see a different message: "We weren’t able to set up your Google account with IMAP. You may need to make changes to your Gmail settings."
Often, users consider whether the issue is due to Gmail requiring an app-specific password for login. However, the root of the problem lies with Microsoft, not Google, so even using a Google app-specific password does not resolve the issue.
Currently, the issue has been resolved in the Office Current Channel version 2412 Build 18324.20168. However, after upgrading to the new version, users might still encounter similar issues. In such cases, the following solution is recommended:
Solution:
After upgrading to the latest version, if you missed checking the "Microsoft apps and services can access: read, compose, send, and permanently delete all your email from Gmail" box, you can relink to the browser login window by clicking the retry button on the error window and log in to your Google account again.
If the problem persists, you may need to remove Microsoft account permissions in Gmail and manually delete local credentials in Windows. For more details, please refer to Microsoft's support documentation.
Regarding the Freezing Issue When Copying Content:
When selecting a text in Outlook and using the Ctrl+C shortcut to copy, Outlook may freeze or even crash. This issue is gradually being fixed.
