Microsoft Increases Bing Chat Query Limits to 20/200 Following Weekend Tests

Microsoft has recently announced an increase in the query limits for Bing Chat, its AI-powered conversational tool, after conducting weekend tests. Previously, users were limited to 15 continuous queries per session and a total of 150 queries per day. However, following the successful tests, the limits have been raised to 20 continuous queries per session and a total of 200 queries per day.

The primary focus of these tests was to evaluate the presence of “hallucinations” in Bing Chat, a phenomenon where the AI model may produce responses of lower quality, generate unrelated content, or even produce content that insults users. This had been one of the key reasons why Microsoft initially limited the number of queries allowed on Bing Chat.

After conducting tests with a subset of users and not encountering significant issues with hallucinations, Microsoft’s vice president announced on Twitter that the new query limits for Bing Chat sessions have been officially adjusted to 20 continuous queries per session and 200 queries per day. This updated limit is now applicable to all users.

The increase in query limits is expected to meet the usage needs of most Bing Chat users, and it signals Microsoft’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the user experience on the platform. As part of its efforts to improve and optimize Bing Chat, Microsoft is expected to continue increasing these limits over time, with the eventual goal of removing the restrictions altogether.

It is interesting to note that OpenAI, the developer of GPT-4, had also previously mentioned the issue of hallucinations when it launched the GPT-4 model. Bing Chat is built using an early testing version of GPT-4, and while GPT-4 is known to have a high computational load, allowing a maximum of 25 queries in 3 hours, it has not been reported to suffer from hallucination issues.

As AI-powered conversational tools continue to evolve and improve, Microsoft’s decision to increase query limits for Bing Chat reflects the company’s confidence in the quality and reliability of its AI model, as well as its dedication to providing users with a seamless and enhanced conversational experience.

Microsoft’s Bing Chat is a valuable tool for users seeking quick and accurate responses to their queries, and the recent updates to its query limits suggest that it will continue to play a key role in the world of AI-powered conversational platforms.
