Apple Maps Launches Web Version, Currently Not Supporting China Market or Any Mobile and Firefox Browser
This week, Apple introduced a web version of Apple Maps for desktop platform users, which is currently in the testing phase. It is accessible only on Windows and Mac platforms, with no support for iOS, Linux, ChromeOS, and Android systems.
Apple Maps is a global mapping service launched by Apple, which also has its own mapping team that collects street view data with street view cars, offering an experience similar to Google Maps. However, Google Maps supports more countries/regions than Apple.
The web version of Apple Maps mainly allows browsing on the web, but there are significant limitations at present. Supported browsers are limited to Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, with Safari being supported on Apple's own platforms.
Below are the browsers supported by the web version of Apple Maps:
- Chrome for Windows
- Chrome for Mac
- Microsoft Edge for Windows
- Microsoft Edge for Mac
- Safari for Mac
Only the above five browsers on these platforms are supported, meaning that using Safari on iOS or Chrome on Android to load the site will result in a message stating that the current browser is not supported.
In terms of regional support, the web version of Apple Maps also does not support the China mainland market. Users attempting to access it will be redirected to the web version of Amap , due to Apple's partnership with Amap in the China mainland market for map data provision.
