Notion Announces Service Suspension in Russia from September 9: Users Urged to Back Up Data Promptly
The popular note-taking and personal knowledge base software Notion recently sent an email to its Russian users announcing the cessation of its services in Russia from September 9, 2024. As a result of this decision, subscriptions for users who have already subscribed will be terminated from September 9, and from the same date, users will no longer be able to access Notion content and services.
Notion also clarified in the notification that the suspension of services in Russia is due to sanctions imposed by the United States government. Therefore, Notion is compelled to completely halt its operations in Russia and stop providing services to Russian users.
After the deadline, users located in Russia will no longer be able to access Notion, meaning they will also lose access to various saved notes content. Therefore, it's imperative for users to immediately back up all their data.
However, it's still unclear how Notion will determine which users should be prohibited from using Notion. The common methods would likely involve IP address and payment method. Users outside of Russia should still be able to use Notion.
To prevent users from losing important information stored in Notion, the platform has already made a data export tool available. Users can export all their data in advance.
Notion supports exporting in PDF or HTML format. Users can choose to export from the menu of any content page in Notion, with different data format options available during the export process. For more details, please refer to: https://www.notion.so/help/export-your-content
