Critical Vulnerability in WordPress Jetpack Plugin Installed by 27 Million Websites: Urgent Update Needed for Webmasters

Jetpack, a powerful enhancement plugin officially released by the renowned content management system WordPress, boosts website functionalities, enhances security, and improves site performance. It's reported that the plugin has been installed on 27 million websites built with WordPress.

Recently, WordPress announced that a critical security vulnerability was discovered in Jetpack during an internal audit. This flaw has been present since before 2016 and affects over 101 versions of the Jetpack plugin.

However, it's important to note that this vulnerability does not lead to WordPress sites being hacked but rather poses a data leakage issue. It allows attackers to access forms submitted by any user.

WordPress has stated that there is no evidence to suggest that this vulnerability has been exploited by hackers in the past eight years. Nonetheless, webmasters currently using the Jetpack plugin must immediately upgrade to the latest version to ensure they are not affected.

Given that the vulnerability has now been disclosed, it's likely that hackers will soon attempt to exploit it. Thus, webmasters should either upgrade the plugin immediately or disable it without delay.
