X/Twitter Begins Tagging All Parody/Impersonation Accounts with "Parody Account" Labels to Prevent Misinformation
Social media platform X/Twitter will now add specific tags to parody and impersonation accounts to indicate that they are not official accounts and prevent the spread of information as rumors, as mentioned earlier by Landian.news.
According to X/Twitter's policies, parody and impersonation for the purpose of humor or mimicry are allowed, such as the well-known Elon Musk (Parody) account, provided that the account clearly states it is a parody.
To address potential misunderstandings, the platform has decided to add a specific tag for all impersonation accounts: "Parody Account." Account owners will have the ability to edit this tag.
Users can activate this feature by going to Settings and Privacy, Your Account, Account Information, and then finding the option for Impersonation / Commentary / Fan Account. Once activated, the "Parody Account" label will be displayed on the front-end profile page.
Furthermore, if a parody account does not indicate this label in their name and profile, it may be treated as spam and could be banned by the platform to prevent any negative impact on businesses or celebrities.
The X security team also revealed that users can now add the "Parody Account" label themselves, and in the future, the platform will enforce the addition of such labels through algorithm detection and other mechanisms. Once added, account owners will not be able to edit or remove the tag.
