Elon Musk's Bold Move: X/Twitter to Allow Blocked Users to View Posts but Not Reply
In X/Twitter, the block feature was designed to prohibit viewing, replying, retweeting, and liking, along with a "lock tweet" function. Once this feature is activated, anyone other than current followers cannot view any content from the user who has locked their tweets.
However, after Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, he made adjustments to the recommendation algorithm. This resulted in some users who had locked their tweets being exposed in the recommendation feed, meaning that even those not following could view these posts, essentially rendering the lock tweet function ineffective.
Now, Elon Musk is planning to adjust the block function. According to Musk, the revised block feature will still allow the users you've blocked to view your posts but prevent them from interacting.
This means that regardless of using the lock tweet or block feature, users can't fully protect their privacy since others, including those blocked, can still view their posts, albeit without the ability to comment or retweet.
For some users who wish to protect their privacy, this may be unwelcome news. Some people use X/Twitter solely to communicate with friends, so they opt to lock their tweets and block certain users for bad behavior.
With Musk's changes, unless users refrain from posting altogether, their content might still be visible to strangers and previously blocked users with bad behavior, which could be uncomfortable for some.
The specifics of the revised block feature are still unclear, and this functionality has not been launched yet. It remains to be seen whether there will be some compromise modifications due to significant opposition.
