Elon Musk Confirms Launch of @X.com Email Service
X/Twitter is currently in the throes of developing a variety of new features and ancillary services, including the ability to send files through X's direct messaging and the upcoming launch of an email service at @X.com.
Years ago, the X.com domain was owned by Elon Musk before becoming an asset of PayPal. However, Musk later reacquired the domain, which now serves as Twitter’s primary domain, with Twitter itself having been renamed X.
The upcoming email service will use the same @X.com domain, making it a single-letter top-level domain email address, which certainly carries a unique flair.
According to leaks, the format for X's email service will be [email protected], meaning the current usernames on X (not nicknames) will become the default email addresses, such as [email protected].
Musk has yet to reveal when the email service will be launched. However, considering that X's direct messaging now features end-to-end encryption, it's possible that the email service will also adopt end-to-end encryption to ensure even X itself cannot decrypt the contents of the emails.
Given Musk's character, it's quite likely the email service will not be free. Perhaps it will be available exclusively to subscribers of X Premium, potentially driving more users to sign up for the paid subscription.
