Hacker Sells Dell Portal Website Database Containing 49 Million Customer Records
A hacker has posted a sale thread on a dark web forum, offering a database containing approximately 49 million customer records from Dell's portal website. The database includes sensitive information such as customer names, addresses, hardware purchase details, order information, and warranty data. Dell has since taken notice of the issue and has begun sending security alerts to affected customers via email.
The hacker, known as @Menelik, has since deleted the post, suggesting that the database may have already been sold. Dell has acknowledged the breach, but downplayed the potential risks, stating that the leaked information does not include financial or payment details, email addresses, or phone numbers.
The stolen database is believed to contain customer information from 2017 to 2024, which means that anyone who has purchased devices from Dell's official website during this period may be affected. The top five countries affected by the breach are:
- United States
- China
- India
- Australia
- Canada
It is unclear whether the deletion of the post means that the database has been sold to other hackers or if the seller plans to monetize it through other means. However, based on past experiences, once data is leaked, it rarely disappears from the internet and may continue to circulate among hackers until its value diminishes.
