Firefox Browser Explores Integrating ChatGPT to Summarize and Rewrite Web Content
The Mozilla Foundation has embarked on a novel initiative: to integrate AI services such as ChatGPT into the Firefox browser over the next few months to assist users in summarizing or rewriting web page content.
The AI services being integrated into Firefox include, but are not limited to, ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and HuggingChat. It's important to note that these models are not hosted locally but are instead accessed through cloud services.
The functionality is relatively straightforward. Firefox essentially comes equipped with a set of prompts (in English by default). When users engage the service by sending a webpage along with these prompts to the corresponding AI service provider, they can quickly receive summarized content.
The supported features mainly include summarizing an entire webpage or selected parts of it, asking questions about the current page content, and having the AI pose questions to test your understanding of the content, aiding in memory retention.
To test this feature, one needs to install the Firefox Nightly build. After installation, users can activate the AI chatbot in the experimental options and choose from different providers. Once activated, a panel appears on the side of the browser where interactions are displayed.
Additionally, according to Firefox's documentation, power users can configure and employ custom prompts and any compatible AI chatbots, not limited to the few built-in options. Users interested in experimenting further can modify and test these settings as they wish.
