Apple Launches New Mac Mini with M4 Chip: More Power in a Smaller Package
Apple's Mac Mini has long been a favorite among budget-conscious enthusiasts for its modest price and compact size, making it easy for desk organization or portability.
Today, Apple unveiled a redesigned Mac Mini equipped with the M4 series chip, starting at 16GB of memory and a starting price of $599. Users only need to pair it with a monitor and keyboard mouse to get started.
The redesign's highlights include a smaller size, with the Mac Mini now measuring just 5 inches in length and width. One might wonder how it manages heat dissipation to maintain optimal performance with such a compact size.
Apple states that the new Mac Mini manages its cooling through the M4 chip's efficiency and an innovative thermal structure. This structure directs air across various layers of the system, with all ventilation done through the base to keep the interior cool.
In order to meet the needs of some users who may need to connect a large number of external devices, the new Mac Mini is also equipped with multiple I/O interfaces, including 2 USB-C interfaces and 1 3.5mm headphone interface on the front, Ethernet RJ45 interface and HDMI interface on the back, and up to 3 USB-C/Thunderbolt interfaces.
It's worth noting that USB-A ports have become a thing of the past for Apple, with the new Mac Mini lacking any such ports. Users in need of USB-A connectivity may have to purchase separate adapters.
Due to hardware specifications, there are differences in port protocols. For example, the more expensive M4 Pro chip-equipped Mac Mini supports the Thunderbolt 5 protocol through its USB-C ports, offering higher data throughput.
In terms of pricing, the base model with the M4 chip starts at 16GB of memory, retailing at $599. The version equipped with the M4 Pro chip features 14 CPU cores and 20 GPU cores for enhanced performance, starting at 16GB of memory but supporting up to 64GB, with a starting price of $1399.
There is also an optional configuration for a 10 Gigabit Ethernet interface. If your network already supports 10Gb network, you can consider choosing the 10 Gigabit network version, which can achieve faster data transmission rates.
