Windows 11's New Feature for Gamers Hits a Snag: Gamepad Keyboard Paused
In a recent Windows 11 preview release, Microsoft introduced a virtual keyboard designed for game controller input, making it easier for users to type with a controller's joystick. This feature, after initial testing, began rolling out to users of the Windows 11 24H2 official release. However, due to newly discovered issues, this functionality has been remotely disabled.
Microsoft stated in a blog post:
1. For users who have already received this feature update (including those on both preview and official versions), the functionality has been remotely disabled and can no longer be launched.
2. Users on versions that have not yet received this feature update will also not receive it for the time being, rendering the feature inaccessible to them as well.
While specific details of the issue were not disclosed, Microsoft has committed to re-releasing the feature following a resolution of the problem. Such issues are typically resolved quickly, so users may not have to wait long.
The versions affected include:
The game controller virtual keyboard is compatible with Windows 11 Build 26100.2161, with the corresponding cumulative update being KB5044384, and Windows 11 Build 22631.4391, with the corresponding cumulative update being KB5044380.
