Exclusive ChatGPT Client for Mac Launched by OpenAI --- What You Need to Know
At a press conference last night, OpenAI announced the launch of the official ChatGPT client for Apple Mac devices. This client is being rolled out gradually, although installation packages have already surfaced online.
However, these versions circulating online may have been altered or embedded with malicious software, making security a concern. Consequently, members of the OpenAI community have posted official download links to ensure safety.
The good news is that the download link is operational. The bad news? Even after installation, access requires authorization. As Landian.News has not subscribed to ChatGPT Plus, it's unclear whether subscription is necessary to gain early test access.
Upon attempting to log in, users encounter the following message: "Coming soon. You do not have access to the desktop app yet. You can still use ChatGPT at chatgpt.com."
This implies that access will be granted gradually, so users may need to stick with the web version of ChatGPT until the official Mac version is widely available.
Additionally, it has been confirmed that ChatGPT for Mac is not developed using the Electron framework but is a native macOS application. If it were developed with Electron, a Windows version would likely be available by now. The absence of a Windows version suggests OpenAI's preference for not using cross-platform frameworks, necessitating separate development efforts for different platforms.
