Docker Desktop Now Available in a Native Version for Windows on Arm
This week, ahead of the Build 2024 developer conference, Microsoft hosted the Copilot+PC launch event, featuring devices all based on Qualcomm Snapdragon Arm chips and equipped with NPU units to support local artificial intelligence computations.
During the event, Microsoft also announced partnerships with major software developers, including Adobe. Many creative software applications like Photoshop and Premiere Pro will be released in native versions for Windows on Arm.
Developers and professional users will be pleased to hear that another heavyweight software, Docker Desktop, has also launched a native version for Windows on Arm. A native version means it's developed based on the Arm architecture, eliminating the need for users to run these software applications through the Windows on Arm x64 emulator, which can result in performance loss.
Users can utilize Docker Desktop on Arm devices to manage and run various supported projects, offering a much better experience than operating under an x64 emulator. This should help improve developers' efficiency on Arm devices.
According to Docker's announcement, Docker Desktop for Windows on Arm should now be available. Users downloading the Docker Desktop online installer on a WoA device will likely get the native version.
With Arm-based devices rapidly increasing, the WoA ecosystem is expected to see significant expansion starting this year. This presents more options for developers, especially as more software natively supports WoA.
