Cooler Master, a Renowned PC Component Manufacturer, Hit by Cyberattack Exposing Sensitive Information of Over 500,000 Users
Cooler Master, a leading manufacturer known for its high-quality coolers, computer cases, power supplies, and other peripherals, has recently disclosed a significant security breach. On May 19, 2024, a hacker, known by the alias Ghostr, infiltrated Cooler Master's servers and stole 103GB of data.
The breach primarily affected users registered on Cooler Master's Fanzone website, a portal used for product warranty registration, after-sales support, and support ticket creation. The stolen data includes sensitive personal information such as names, email addresses, real addresses, phone numbers, and birthdays.
In addition to personal user data, the leaked sample data released by Ghostr also contained details about Cooler Master's products, employee information, and some supplier emails. While there was mention of financial data, including credit card information, such details were not found in the sample. The extent of the leaked financial information has yet to be detailed by Cooler Master.
The hacker is currently attempting to sell the stolen database in underground forums, though the asking price has not been disclosed. Cooler Master is conducting an ongoing investigation into the matter.
Given that the leaked information includes users' sensitive details, those affected are at an increased risk of targeted phishing emails and scam calls. Cooler Master users are advised to remain vigilant.
