OPENAI Spends $11 Million on Ai.com,then jumps to ChatGPT
According to online rumors, OPENAI, the developer of ChatGPT, has bought the Ai.com domain name for $11 million.
Now when you open Ai.com, you will be automatically redirected to ChatGPT instead of OPENAI's official website, probably because OPENAI wants to replace Chat.openai.com, which is not a very memorable domain name for ordinary users, with ai.com, which you can remember at a glance.
A domain search shows that ai.com was registered on May 4, 1993 and is currently hosted on Google Domain, using CloudFlare DNS servers.
Since the domain name is privacy-protected, we can't see OPENAI's registration information and the exact date of purchase, except that a lot of developers are currently talking about it on Twitter.
Ai.com domain name naturally needs to be said, OPENAI can spend $11 million to buy it is considered to be worthy of value, I do not know whether the chat.openai.com domain name will be completely replaced.
Update 1:
A Bing Chat query revealed that OPENAI purchased Ai.com two years ago, probably in September 2021, and the actual transaction price is unknown, but the domain broker at the time priced Ai.com at $11 million.
Update 2:
There is no definite evidence that OPENAI purchased Ai.com, as the domain name can also be forwarded to ChatGPT by the controller and does not require OPENAI to do so.
