Apacer Introduces Silicone Safety Belts for RAM to Minimize Vibration and Prevent Damage
Hardware manufacturer Apacer Technology recently launched silicone safety belts for RAM, designed to securely hold memory modules in place and reduce vibration. Despite sounding like an April Fool's joke, a closer look at Apacer's press release reveals that these RAM safety belts are indeed practical and useful.
These RAM safety belts are made from flame-retardant polydimethylsiloxane, capable of withstanding temperatures up to 200 degrees Celsius. The elasticity of the safety belt ensures that the RAM modules are snugly fit onto the motherboard, minimizing the impact of vibrations.
The use of flame-retardant material also means that in extreme cases, such as short circuits leading to fires, the safety belt will not catch fire. Additionally, the material is insulating, posing no additional risk within the computer case.
For most home consumers, RAM safety belts are almost unnecessary. Apacer's introduction of these safety belts is primarily aimed at industrial scenarios, where equipment may be subjected to long-term, frequent vibrations.
Such vibrations can potentially damage the gold fingers of the RAM modules or cause poor contact, affecting the normal use of the device. The RAM safety belts can alleviate this issue.
Another scenario where RAM safety belts can be useful is during long-distance transportation of equipment. Bumpy roads may also cause abnormalities in the RAM module's gold fingers. Apacer suggests that the RAM safety belts can help mitigate potential impacts caused by long-distance transportation (Note: For long-distance shipments, it is still recommended to remove the RAM modules and wrap them separately in foam if possible).
The design of the RAM safety belts features three points of force: the clips on both sides of the memory slot and the top of the RAM module. This design ensures that the RAM module is securely fixed in the slot, preventing the clips from loosening and the module from falling out.
In conclusion, Apacer emphasizes that these RAM safety belts are compatible with all modern motherboards, ensuring their usability in various industrial settings and edge AI computing scenarios, offering better versatility.
