iPhone 16 Series: Embracing 8GB RAM for Future-Proof AI Capabilities
During its recent product launch, Apple unveiled the iPhone 16 series, featuring the Apple A18 and A18 Pro chips, boosting device-end applications for artificial intelligence technology.
Typically, Apple refrains from disclosing the memory capacity of its devices. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus were equipped with 6GB of RAM, while the iPhone 15 Pro+ boasted 8GB.
This year, however, the story took a different turn. @Geekerwan conducted an interview with Apple's Senior Vice President of Hardware Technologies, Srouji, confirming that the entire iPhone 16 line-up would sport 8GB of RAM.
Interestingly, Srouji mentioned that Apple explored various configurations, including computational and memory bandwidths as well as capacities, to strike the right balance and find the most reasonable solution. The outcome was that Apple Intelligence necessitates 8GB of RAM.
While it may seem like an upgrade, the memory increase applies only to the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, with the Pro series continuing to use 8GB of RAM.
Apple also emphasized the benefits of 8GB RAM for other applications, including improvements in gaming, high-end, triple-A, and on-device high-end gaming performance. Moreover, the Apple software team is optimizing memory usage for each app to prevent wastage.
Given Apple's current stance, it's unlikely that the iPhone 17 series will see a memory increase next year, as 8GB already meets Apple's standards for sufficient memory capacity.
