Apple Introduces New Tool for Seamless Migration of Apple Music Playlists to YouTube Music
Amid the growing demands for platform openness and interoperability, Apple has been gradually building infrastructure to facilitate user migration from its ecosystem to other platforms. Following the provision of tools for directly exporting iCloud Photos content to Google Photos, Apple has announced that Apple Music playlists can now be seamlessly exported to YouTube Music.
This playlist migration feature is designed to ease the transition for users between different platforms, eliminating the need to manually search for and recreate playlists on another platform, thus saving time and effort.
For instance, by logging into the Apple data and privacy page, users can opt to transfer a copy of their data, allowing them to migrate their Apple Music playlists to YouTube Music. The songs in the playlist will be automatically added on YouTube Music, making the migration process highly convenient. This functionality, co-developed by Apple and Google, currently supports migration from Apple Music to YouTube Music only, with no support for platforms like Spotify (though third-party tools are available for such purposes).
However, it's important to note that each platform's music library rights differ. Some songs available on Apple Music may not be offered on YouTube Music and vice versa, leading to the potential absence of certain songs in the migrated playlists - a situation considered normal.
Apple also detailed what can and cannot be migrated:
- Only playlists created by the user, including owned collaborative playlists, are eligible for migration.
- Music files (e.g., user-uploaded) cannot be transferred.
- Non-collaborative shared playlists and curated playlists are not migratable.
- Organized playlists on Apple Music will not be migrated.
- Playlists can only include songs available on YouTube Music; other content like blogs and audiobooks are not supported.
- After completion, users can view their playlists in the YouTube Music library. Missing songs indicate their unavailability on YouTube.
