Apple May End the Era of EarPods Wired Headphones: No Longer Continuing Production
American retailer Target has marked Apple's classic wired headphones, the EarPods, as discontinued products. This move could indicate that Apple is preparing to cease production of this type of wired headphones.
The discontinued labels apply to three versions: the Lightning version, USB-C version, and the 3.5mm version, all of which were Apple's wired headphone options for users with specific needs.
Most newly released headphones nowadays connect via wireless Bluetooth, not requiring power from the phone, thanks to their built-in batteries. Despite being years old without significant changes, EarPods still boast a substantial fan base. These enthusiasts prefer wired headphones for their reliability and simplicity.
For these fans, the potential discontinuation of EarPods by Apple could be a disappointment. After all, despite their higher price compared to other wired headphones, EarPods offer unmatched sound quality and come equipped with a high-quality microphone, setting them apart from many competitors.
Moreover, the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack by Apple has been a point of contention for many users. Starting with the iPhone 7 series launched in 2016, Apple eliminated the 3.5mm headphone jack, forcing users to connect headphones via Bluetooth.
Last year, with the launch of the iPhone 15 series that adopted the USB-C port, Apple also released a USB-C version of EarPods, allowing fans of wired headphones to continue using them through this connection.
Therefore, for those who still cherish wired headphones, it might be wise to purchase an extra pair of EarPods soon. They might come in handy in the future, assuming they become necessary. Otherwise, it could be considered a waste of money.
