National Top-Level Domain .CV is Now Open for Registration, Including Expensive Single-Letter Domains
Located in the Atlantic Ocean to the west of Senegal and Mauritania, there is a country named Cape Verde. The Republic of Cape Verde is about 570 kilometers away from the West African coast, and its official language is Portuguese.
Cape Verde's name in Portuguese is República de Cabo Verde, hence the country's national top-level domain (ccTLD) is .CV. Although this domain has been active since 1996, it has only recently been opened for registration.
The good news is that many domains, including single-letter domains like O.CV, are available for registration, although these shorter domains, such as single-letter, double-letter, or triple-letter domains, are very expensive to register.
In English, there are two main terms for a personal resume: Curriculum Vitae and Resume, with the former abbreviated as CV. This is the angle many domain registrars are promoting for the .CV domain.
This angle indeed has its appeal. For example, if you are an IT engineer, you could register a domain like yourname.CV to showcase your education, work experience, and other skills, making it a personal portfolio for visibility to potential employers or HR departments.
There are several registrars for .CV domains, including read.cv and hello.cv, both offering similar prices for .CV domain registration. However, hello.cv offers cheaper renewal rates for premium domains.
Premium domains are those considered to have a higher potential value, thus priced higher than standard domains. Some premium domains have a high registration fee for the first year but offer cheaper renewals, while others might have high fees for both registration and renewal, depending on the registrar.
Taking the domain O.CV as an example:
- read.cv lists the registration price at $ 3005 for the first year, with an annual renewal fee of $99.
- hello.cv lists the registration price at $3002 for the first year, with an annual renewal fee of $67.5.
As for non-premium standard domains, the first-year price is indeed very affordable, for example, landiannews.cv costs only $3 for the first year with a renewal fee of $7.5. However, this renewal rate is comparable to .COM domains, so unless you're registering a visually appealing premium domain, it may not be worth registering a .CV domain.
