Apple Officially Launches iCloud Passwords Extension for Firefox, Enabling Password Autofill
Apple provides comprehensive password management support through its Apple KeyChain, but not all users stick to the Apple Safari browser. To accommodate this, Apple had previously developed the iCloud Passwords extension for Chromium browsers.
However, Mozilla Firefox users were out of luck until recently, as Apple had not offered the iCloud Passwords extension for this browser. This meant that users could not autofill their saved passwords on Firefox.
That has changed with Apple taking over and updating a third-party developed extension, iCloud Passwords for Firefox, turning it into an official extension available for users. This extension allows users to sync and choose passwords saved in the Apple KeyChain while using Firefox, and even create new passwords to sync back to the Apple KeyChain for use on iOS and macOS.
In essence, with this extension, Firefox users can now enjoy a seamless browsing experience, similar to what's available on Chromium browsers, though it still doesn't match the password synchronization capabilities of Safari on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
