Twitter is currently continuing to lay off employees, including some engineers and product managers, such as Esther Crawford who helped Musk quickly launch the Twitter Blue subscription service by sleeping in the office. Esther Crawford is one of Twitter’s main product managers. After Musk took over Twitter, he required the product team to develop a paid verification feature, which became Twitter Blue.
At the time, Esther Crawford posted a photo on Twitter saying, “When your team works around the clock to meet the deadline, sometimes you can only sleep where you work.”
Who would have thought that now Musk would directly lay off Esther Crawford, who is responsible for the Twitter payment feature. In addition to Esther Crawford, many other product teams will be laid off over the weekend.
The reason for the layoffs is currently unknown, but Musk has previously mentioned the need for a stable organization to ensure financial health because the product roadmap has been established.
Some people speculate that Musk wants to establish a new system, so he wants to get rid of all the previous Twitter employees and only a major overhaul can make the new Twitter system work.
However, these are just speculations and it is unclear whether such a new system exists, but given Musk’s character, anything is possible.
Finally, there is a slightly ironic story. When Twitter laid off a large number of employees at the end of last year, Esther Crawford was not on the list. In a sense, Esther Crawford was a supporter of Musk. At the time, she wrote on Twitter Slack, “Whoever owns the company needs to lay off a lot of people to survive.”
