Broadcom Pulls VMware Workstation Pro Download Link: Future Access Uncertain
According to discussions on Landian.News, Broadcom has recently removed the download link for VMware Workstation Pro from the official VMware website, leaving users temporarily unable to obtain the installation package from official channels.
Previously, all users could download the installation package directly from the VMware website without registration. After installation, the software could be activated using batch license keys found online, allowing for the setup of various virtual machines.
Currently, attempting to access the download link [https://www.vmware.com/go/getworkstation-win] results in an error. Broadcom has indicated on another page that from April 30th to May 13th, the VMware store will be closed for maintenance and subsequently migrated to a new domain.
Given Broadcom's recent actions, it seems that downloading VMware Workstation Pro in the future might become more challenging. Broadcom may require user registration or a purchase of a license before downloading, a departure from the previous ease of access to installation packages and the latest versions.
This change also introduces a potential security risk. Many home users rely on VMware Workstation Pro, and in the future, these users might need to resort to third-party installation packages. This necessitates heightened vigilance when downloading such packages from the internet, as they could be modified and pose security risks.
Furthermore, the likelihood of VMware Workstation Pro batch license keys being leaked online might decrease, and existing licenses could be revoked. This would make continued use of VMware Workstation Pro more difficult for users.
