Microsoft to Launch System Center 2025 This Fall: What Enterprises Need to Know
Microsoft System Center is a management suite provided by Microsoft for enterprise IT administrators, which can be used to manage a batch of virtual machines or devices such as Windows NT, Windows Embedded, Windows Server, SQL Server, Linux, Azure Stack HCI, Mac, etc.
Enterprises can use this suite to manage devices and assets across environments and platforms, thereby simplifying infrastructure and deploying, configuring, managing, and monitoring through virtualization and software-defined data centers.
In April 2022, Microsoft launched the Microsoft System Center 2022 edition. Recently, Microsoft has confirmed that the subsequent version, Microsoft System Center 2025, will be released sometime in the fall.
The specific release date is still unclear, but it is highly likely to be launched alongside enterprise products such as Windows Server 2025 and Windows 11 LTSC 2024. As usual, Microsoft has already announced a private preview version, and IT administrators can click here to fill out an application form to sign up for the preview.
Microsoft System Center 2025 will add support for Azure Stack HCI 23H2 clusters. If enterprises manage and monitor these clusters using VMM and SCOM 2025, they can directly switch to Microsoft System Center 2025.
Microsoft also mentioned that when using VMM to convert VMware VM virtual machines to Windows Server, enterprises could enjoy an enhanced user experience.
In terms of security, Microsoft System Center 2025 will default to using Generation 2 Hyper-V for any virtual machine created with VMM, offering a faster and more secure boot experience.
Additionally, the new version will support Transport Layer Security (TLS) version 1.3, and the DPM 2025 component will add support for storing passwords in the Microsoft Azure Key Vault.
Furthermore, there are some feature changes; the Azure Profiles feature in VMM and SPF will be removed. This functionality will be built into VMM with deprecated Azure Arc, rather than provided through Microsoft System Center 2025.
