Microsoft Edge to Bring Real-Time Translation Feature, Utilizing AI to Translate Videos/Voices on Websites

At the Build 2024 developers conference, Microsoft announced a new real-time translation feature for both personal and enterprise users of the Microsoft Edge browser. This feature uses AI-driven technology to translate videos and voices on supported websites in real-time.

This functionality mirrors the real-time translation seen in Microsoft Teams remote video meetings, where participants' speeches are automatically translated and subtitled, allowing attendees who speak different languages to discuss issues together.

However, the range of languages currently supported by the real-time translation feature in Microsoft Edge is somewhat limited. As of now, the supported translations include:

• From Spanish to English
• From English to German
• From English to Hindi
• From English to Italian
• From English to Spanish

If the user's language and the video's language are both supported, real-time translated subtitles will be displayed once the real-time translation feature is activated. It's worth noting that users can also enable a read-aloud function, which means that the translation will be automatically spoken out loud, essentially providing real-time dubbing.

The real-time translation functionality also has a limited range of website support, currently including videos from YouTube, Bloomberg, Coursera, LinkedIn, Reuters, etc., that can be translated in real-time. Microsoft plans to continue expanding the range of supported websites.

Lastly, Microsoft also revealed plans to further extend support for translations between more languages, allowing more users to experience the benefits brought by AI technology.
