YouTube Videos Now Skip to the End to Force Users to Disable Ad Blockers
YouTube videos are now skipping to the end, forcing users to disable their ad blockers. If users try to refresh the page or click on the progress bar, the video will still skip to the end, making it impossible to watch normally, unless they temporarily disable their ad blocker.
The cat-and-mouse game between users and YouTube over ad blocking continues. According to the latest reports from Reddit, YouTube has started detecting ad blockers (including but not limited to various ad-blocking extensions, software, or plugins) and skipping videos to the end.
If users try to reload the video by refreshing the page, YouTube will skip to the end again. Even manually clicking on the progress bar to jump to a specific point won't work, as the video will still skip to the end.
For now, the only solution is to temporarily disable ad blockers or add YouTube to the whitelist, which will allow videos to play normally.
Google has not commented on this issue, but it's reasonable to assume that YouTube is deploying anti-ad-blocking measures to force users to stop blocking ads. This could be a bug, but it's highly unlikely.
YouTube has already implemented various anti-ad-blocking schemes to encourage users to stop blocking video ads or subscribe to YouTube Premium, including displaying prompts when ad blockers are detected, blocking audio playback, and shutting down popular third-party apps like YouTube Vanced through legal means.
For Google, it's no longer necessary to hide its intentions. No matter what ad-blocking methods users and developers try, Google will find a way to technologically counter them. For users, blocking ads is a way to enhance their experience, while for Google, anti-ad-blocking is crucial for revenue.
This war over ad blocking will continue, and neither side is likely to surrender in the short term.
