Google Replaces Gemini's Default Model with the Faster and More Efficient 1.5 Flash Version, Now Free for All
Gemini is an AI conversational app launched by Google, which also refers to the name of the AI model released by Google. Currently, the Gemini model has been updated to version 1.5, with several versions varying in parameters.
Among them, the fastest and most efficient version is the Gemini 1.5 Flash edition. This model was previously available to developers via API at a cost, and it was also provided to Gemini Advanced paid subscription users to enhance efficiency.
Today, Google announced an update to the Gemini app and has upgraded all users to the Gemini 1.5 Flash model. This means all users, regardless of whether they have a subscription, can now use the faster and more efficient 1.5 Flash model.
Google stated that the previous versions mainly used the Gemini 1.0 Pro model. Compared to it, the Gemini 1.5 Flash model has several advantages, including faster speed and higher efficiency. Additionally, the 1.5 Flash model supports a 32K context, while the 1.0 Pro only supports an 8K context.
This means users can input longer content for Gemini to process at once, instead of having to split overly long content into multiple paragraphs and gradually submit them to Gemini. This also helps users solve some more complex problems.
In addition to the model upgrade, Gemini can now access related content in its responses, such as visiting various pieces of information related to the topic within Gemini's answers. Users can click on links at the end of the responses to view more.
If users are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, they can now also try using Gemini within the Google Messages app. Gemini can help users draft messages, discuss ideas, plan events, etc.
To use this feature, open Google Messages on your Android device, then click to chat with Gemini. Follow the prompts to converse with Gemini and state your request.
