OpenAI Officially Launches Its Own Search Engine: ChatGPT Search Based on AI Technology
There have been rumors circulating that OpenAI has been developing its own search engine, which promises to deliver a better experience than traditional search engines such as Google. OpenAI later confirmed these rumors by announcing a waitlist for SearchGPT.
ChatGPT Search is now officially released and integrated within ChatGPT itself. Users can choose to either send their queries to the AI model for an answer or use the search engine to find content directly.
Sometimes, ChatGPT will decide on its own whether to use the search engine or provide an answer through AI, all in the effort to quickly supply users with more accurate information.
OpenAI states that finding useful answers online can be a challenging task, often requiring multiple searches and the exploration of links to find high-quality sources and relevant information. ChatGPT Search aims to improve this process by allowing users to ask questions in a natural, conversational manner. ChatGPT can then choose to use information from the web to respond.
Additionally, in subsequent conversations within the same session, the GPT model will consider previous dialogues, including searched content. This feature enables ChatGPT to better understand the user's questions and provide more accurate answers.
Currently, the ChatGPT Search service is still in its testing phase, thus available only to ChatGPT Plus, Teams, and those who were previously on the SearchGPT waitlist. Access for enterprise and educational users is expected in the coming weeks, while free users will gain access in the coming months.
This feature is available on both the ChatGPT web version and the Windows/Mac clients, as well as the ChatGPT apps for iOS/Android, so remember to update your app to the latest version through the app store.
There are also several card-style information retrieval formats available, such as for weather, stock prices, sports scores, maps, and more.
