Microsoft to End Support for Windows 11 Versions 21H2 and 22H2 in 90 Days: Users Urged to Upgrade Timely
As the end of life cycle for older versions approaches, Microsoft routinely issues several announcements reminding users to upgrade promptly. However, announcements alone are often not enough, so Microsoft typically proceeds to automatically upgrade older versions to ensure users are always on a supported version.
On October 8, 2024, Microsoft will cease support for both Windows 11 versions 21H2 and 22H2. Users are advised, at a minimum, to upgrade to Windows 11 version 23H2.
Windows 11 Version 21H2:
Support for the consumer editions of this version, including Home, Home China, Pro, Pro Education, and Pro for Workstations, has already ended. The enterprise versions have an additional support period, but this too will cease on October 8, 2024.
Therefore, both consumers and enterprise users still on Windows 11 version 21H2 should upgrade to a later supported version, specifically to Windows 11 version 23H2.
Enterprise users, who often operate under IT administration, should contact their IT administrators if they are unable to upgrade.
Windows 11 Version 22H2:
This version is one of the major updates for Windows 11. Microsoft will end support for the consumer editions of this version on October 8, while enterprise editions traditionally receive an additional 18 months of support, allowing enterprises to continue using this version temporarily.
It's worth noting that Windows 11 version 23H2 is considered a minor update, essentially a rebranded version of 22H2, meaning that both consumers and enterprises should not encounter significant compatibility issues when upgrading from 22H2 to 23H2.
Furthermore, by October 8, the official release of Windows 11 version 24H2 will also be available. Users will have the option to directly upgrade to Windows 11 version 24H2, a major update that introduces several new features.
