Google Chrome Desktop Stable Version Has Not Been Updated for Over 23 Days, Uncertain If a Serious Bug Exists
Typically, Chrome should be updated at least 3 to 4 times a month. Most of these updates are emergency patches pushed after discovering security vulnerabilities. For instance, Chrome released at least 6 updates in May.
However, in June, Chrome had three updates, with the latest version being v126.0.6478.126/.127, released on June 24. Since then, it has been over 23 days without any updates.
This is clearly an abnormal situation for Chrome. Landian.news checked Google's release activity and found that the Beta and Dev versions are actively being updated, but only the stable channel has stalled.
Especially since other channels have already updated to Chrome v127, according to the release schedule, the v127 version is already delayed. Thus, the reason for the halt in updates is not yet clear.
Google has an obligation to quickly fix any significant security vulnerabilities discovered. It's not normal to go over 20 days without addressing any vulnerabilities. Therefore, a reasonable speculation is that Chrome might have encountered a significant bug, requiring more time for Google to handle.
Users of the Google Chrome browser can follow updates from Landian.news in the coming days. Perhaps the new version of Chrome will be released soon, and we'll see if there is indeed a significant bug.
Moreover, this situation also affects other browsers based on the Chromium engine. Usually, vulnerabilities are disclosed after Chrome has been fixed, so other Chromium-based browsers also need to synchronize their updates accordingly.
