wcurl Announces Integration into curl Project, Aiming to Boost Its Development and Promotion
curl, an open-source software primarily designed for network transfer based on specified URLs, is a built-in tool within Linux and macOS systems. It facilitates downloading content directly from the command line.
wcurl, on the other hand, is a simple wrapper around curl, designed to make it more user-friendly by reducing the need for users to remember numerous command-line arguments.
Recently, Deniel, a lead developer of the curl project, announced that wcurl has been integrated into curl, making it an official project of curl. This move ensures support from Deniel and marks wcurl as the third command-line tool under curl, alongside another tool named turl.
It's important to note that this integration does not mean Deniel has taken over the wcurl project. The original developers of wcurl are still involved; the project has merely been transplanted to a new environment for better growth opportunities.
Deniel's vision involves hosting wcurl within curl to facilitate its development, hoping to encourage the involvement of curl contributors and maintainers with wcurl. Deniel has no intention of controlling or dictating the development and operations of wcurl. The goal is to collectively improve.
Regarding maintenance, wcurl is maintained by Samuel Henrique and Sergio Durigan Junior and is available under the standard curl open-source license.
Lastly, the wcurl repository has already been migrated to its new home within the curl project: https://github.com/curl/wcurl
