Mozilla Foundation Set to Unveil New Logo: From Moz://a to a Mozilla Mini Flag
In 2017, Mozilla revamped its official logo to moz://a, and now, seven years later, Mozilla is preparing for another logo makeover. The new logo has not been officially announced yet, but glimpses of its design have already surfaced on some web pages and in code.
German netizen Sören Hentzschel recently spotted the change, noting that on some Mozilla pages, the Firefox logo now includes the added text "by Mozilla." Further investigation revealed even more variations.
From the code Mozilla has submitted on GitHub, more details emerge, including the new logo Mozilla is planning to switch to. This new logo is quite interesting, featuring an ASCII symbol that resembles a mini flag behind the Mozilla name.
This mini-flag concept might have roots in Mozilla’s history, tracing back to its precursor, Netscape. Mozilla has a well-known mascot that also vaguely resembles a mini flag, doesn't it?
Thus, the new logo Mozilla is gearing up to introduce appears to combine Mozilla with the mascot mini flag. However, Mozilla has yet to officially announce this logo change. Naturally, the Firefox logo might also be updated to include the "by Mozilla" text.
The logo change has also sparked discussions on OMG! Ubuntu, with some users speculating that Mozilla is investing in rebranding rather than continuing to fund its browser and other products.
Mozilla’s new interim CEO, appointed in February, has also hinted at reinvesting in the Firefox browser. It remains unclear whether this logo change is part of the new CEO's strategy to revitalize Mozilla and Firefox.
