Mozilla Rolls Out Firefox v132.0.2 with Key DRM Video Playback Fixes
Mozilla has launched a bug fix update for Firefox v132.0.2 today, aimed specifically at addressing issues related to playing videos protected with DRM (Digital Rights Management) content that were generating error codes.
In the Firefox v132.0 release last month, Mozilla integrated Microsoft PlayReady, enabling the browser to play DRM-protected videos, including some of Netflix's 4K offerings.
This integration not only allows for the playback of DRM videos but also enhances performance and reduces power consumption, which should be welcome news for those who frequently stream video content.
The update rectifies errors encountered when attempting to play DRM-protected videos, including:
- NS_ERROR_DOM_MEDIA_FATAL_ERR
- NS_ERROR_DOM_MEDIA_MEDIA_ENGINE_INITIALIZATION_ERR
Seeing these error codes indicates a browser issue, which should be resolved by updating to Mozilla Firefox v132.0.2. However, it's worth noting that Firefox currently supports a limited number of DRM video sites, with plans to expand support in the future.
Additional bug fixes include:
- Implementing measures to reduce the frequency of duplicate push notifications reported by some users.
- Addressing issues that could cause the system print dialog to freeze when attempting to print from certain websites.
- Fixing a crash that could occur on Firefox for macOS when using Microsoft SSO (Single Sign-On).
- Resolving crashes that could happen in certain situations within the Network Monitor developer tool.
For Firefox users, updating is straightforward: simply go to the About page in the browser to automatically check for updates and apply them incrementally. Alternatively, the latest version can be downloaded directly from the Firefox website to overwrite and upgrade.
