Windows 11 Version 22H2 Support Ends Next Month, Microsoft to Begin Mandatory Updates from October 8
According to the latest support announcement from Microsoft, the consumer edition of Windows 11 22H2, aimed at individual and home users, will end its support next month, ceasing to offer security updates.
Given the vulnerability risks posed by the discontinuation of security updates, Microsoft will start mandatory updates from October 8, forcibly upgrading systems to subsequent versions.
The current available versions of Windows 11 mainly include 23H2 and the forthcoming 24H2. However, since new versions are usually rolled out in phases, the forced updates will primarily deploy version 23H2.
Typically, Microsoft provides 24 months of support for consumer editions, including Home and Professional versions, while business editions receive 36 months of support. Therefore, business users of Windows 11 22H2 can continue to use and receive updates next month.
Microsoft states in the Windows 11 Health Dashboard:
Users are advised to proactively update their systems or use the automatic update feature before October 8 to ensure their devices are protected and maintain efficiency, as monthly routine security updates are crucial for security and ecosystem health.
Regarding Windows 11 version 24H2, this version will soon be officially released and start accepting upgrades from the beginning of October. Considering compatibility issues, Microsoft will not immediately roll out this version broadly.
Interested users can directly upgrade to Windows 11 version 24H2 in early October. The new version boasts many new features but may also encounter some usability issues due to compatibility.
