Google Removes Kaspersky Software from Google Play and Bans Developer Account
If you've installed Kaspersky software via Google Play, you might have noticed it's no longer updating. That's because Google has pulled Kaspersky from its platform and banned the developer account.
Currently, Kaspersky's suite of software can't be found on Google Play, a move linked to a prohibition issued by the U.S. Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security.
The ban prohibits U.S. companies and citizens from engaging in transactions with Kaspersky, including the distribution of software via Google Play, which has been interpreted as a type of collaboration between Kaspersky and Google.
In response, Google had no choice but to remove Kaspersky's software and freeze its developer account, making it impossible for users to download or for Kaspersky to push new updates.
A Kaspersky employee mentioned that the company is investigating the situation and exploring potential solutions to ensure their software can continue to be downloaded and updated from Google Play.
Google has been upfront about the situation: "Following recent restrictions against Kaspersky announced by the U.S. Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security, we have removed Kaspersky software from Google Play."
It's important to note that Google's actions affect Google Play users worldwide, not just in the U.S., and it seems unlikely that Kaspersky's account will be reinstated any time soon.
Kaspersky has posted support documentation on their official website, guiding users on where to download the Kaspersky APK, how to bypass browser security warnings, and how to disable Android sideloading restrictions for installing or updating their software directly from Kaspersky's official site.
