AdGuard, the Renowned Ad Blocking Software, Discontinues Support for Windows 7, Leaving Users with Older Versions
The well-known ad-blocking software, AdGuard, recently announced in a blog post that it will no longer support the Windows 7 operating system. The latest version of AdGuard for Windows, version 7.19, will be the final version to support Windows 7.
AdGuard is set to release version 7.20 in December, starting from which, the software will no longer be installable on Windows 7. If it detects that a user is still on Windows 7, AdGuard will prompt them to download version 7.19 instead.
The reason for discontinuing support for Windows 7 is similar to that of other software: over time, some of AdGuard's key libraries, development tools, and the latest security technologies have been developed based on the newer versions of Windows, making it impossible to continue these functionalities on Windows 7.
Therefore, the best decision was to cease support for Windows 7, especially considering the very small number of users still on this system. Continuing to provide compatibility specifically for Windows 7 is not deemed worthwhile.
However, users still on Windows 7 need not back up AdGuard, as subsequent installations will prompt the download of version 7.19. Users can continue to use this older version along with the latest ad-blocking rules, although they will miss out on some new features.
