Google Revamps WiFi Password Sharing with Material You in Android 16
Earlier, Landian.news mentioned Google's adjustment to the Android release schedule, leading to the rollout of Android 16 DP1 this week. This version, aimed at developers, introduces early updates.
Various new features and improvements in the new version are being uncovered progressively. Among them is the redesign of the WiFi password sharing interface using Google's Material You design language.
Since Android 10, Google has allowed users to generate a standard QR code to share WiFi connection details, enabling other devices to connect automatically without the need for manual password entry.
However, the interface for generating WiFi connections before this update was more traditional, not yet adopting the Material You style. Now, with the upgrade, the interface has been redesigned with Material You.
According to images shared by 9to5Google, the new interface looks indeed more modern and appealing, adapting to the system's theme colors. The interface also displays the password, accommodating devices that may require manual entry.
Currently, Android 16 DP1 is available only to developers eager to explore, as it cannot be directly upgraded from Android 15 without data loss. A clean installation is required to upgrade to Android 16.
Therefore, it's advised that non-developers refrain from attempting to upgrade to Android 16 DP1 for now. It's better to wait for subsequent versions to stabilize before considering the installation of the Beta version when Google releases it.
