After a 6-hour Outage, OpenAI's ChatGPT, API, and Sora Services Are Gradually Coming Back Online
This marks the second major outage for OpenAI this month, beginning at 11 AM Pacific Time on December 26 and largely resolving by 5 PM. As of this writing, services are gradually coming back and stabilizing.
The previous widespread outage was due to a problematic update deployed by OpenAI engineers, which triggered a chain reaction. However, this incident was not directly caused by OpenAI but was attributed to issues with an upstream provider.
Affected services include, but are not limited to, ChatGPT, the OpenAI API platform, and the video generation model Sora. The exact cause of the outage remains unclear, but OpenAI is expected to release a detailed incident report in the coming days.
According to OpenAI Status, the API platform and Sora have returned to normal operation, and most services for ChatGPT have also been restored. Nevertheless, there might still be some unexpected errors, and in such cases, users can only wait for further resolution.
