Microsoft 365 Services Gradually Recover After Hours of Interruption Due to Underlying Network Issues
Microsoft's flagship productivity suite, Microsoft 365, experienced several hours of disruption, with a significant number of users reporting inability to access services. The scope of this disruption was notably widespread.
Upon receiving feedback, Microsoft's engineering team launched an investigation and confirmed the problem, issuing an event alert (MO805755) to enterprise IT administrators through the Microsoft 365 admin center, followed by a fix.
The root cause of the Microsoft 365 outage was traced back to an issue with Azure's underlying network, which explains the broad impact of this disruption.
Further investigation revealed that the network issue was triggered by a modification. As a temporary measure, Microsoft isolated and reverted the change to a previous state, restoring Microsoft 365 services gradually.
Since the rollback process across all global regions takes time, some users might still experience issues. Microsoft is devising and implementing remedial measures to quickly address the impact of this change on Microsoft 365 services.
