Samsung’s M14 High-End OLED Screens to Feature in iPhone 16 Pro Series
According to reports from the South Korean news outlet ETNEWS, Samsung is gearing up to supply Apple with its advanced M14 OLED displays. The M series, designed by Samsung for premium smartphones, is noted for its superior brightness and longevity, with the model number indicating the level of improvement - the higher the number, the better the performance.
In comparison, the current iPhone 15 models are equipped with the M12 OLED screens. The upcoming iPhone 16 series, set to release this fall, will differentiate its models by display technology. Only the Pro+ models will feature the new M14 displays, while the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will continue to use the M12 screens from the iPhone 15 series.
Industry insiders have indicated that Samsung plans to start mass production of the M14 OLED displays in the latter half of the year, having already procured materials for the supply chain. Apple isn't the only major brand set to adopt Samsung's M14 panels; Google is also expected to use these screens across its Pixel series, without differentiating between models.
The Pixel 9 lineup, including the standard, Pro, and XL models, as well as the second-generation Pixel Fold, is slated for an August release and will all incorporate the M14 displays.
For the iPhone 16 Pro models, the M14 OLED display is expected to bring about a 20% increase in SDR brightness, although the peak brightness for HDR content is anticipated to remain similar to that of the iPhone 15 series, with no significant improvement.
As the release date for the iPhone 16 series approaches, rumors are swirling, including details about larger display sizes for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max compared to their predecessors. Specifically, the iPhone 16 Pro is expected to have a 6.27-inch display, while the Pro Max model might feature a 6.85-inch screen.
Other rumors suggest the iPhone 16 series will boast thinner bezels, a metal battery case for the Pro Max to enhance energy density, and two new titanium color options, adding to the anticipation and speculation surrounding Apple's latest smartphone offerings.
