Starting from early August, Apple will no longer support PayEasy in the Chinese mainland market, requiring users to switch to other payment methods.
In the Chinese mainland market, users who wish to download apps and games from the AppStore need to have a payment method linked. Initially, Apple offered credit card payments and later added UnionPay cards and PayEasy among others.
Now, as Apple has already adopted Alipay and WeChat Pay, which are widely used by most users, PayEasy will be phased out and no longer supported from the beginning of August.
PayEasy, a third-party payment platform under Yi Zhi Fu Technology Co., Ltd., holds a payment license issued by the People's Bank of China. Many users may have only noticed PayEasy when linking payment methods to their Apple ID, although it is estimated that most have never used this payment method.
Moving forward, the AppStore in the Chinese mainland market will support the following three payment methods: bank cards / UnionPay cards, Alipay, and WeChat Pay. Users need to verify when adding a new payment method, and upon completion, it can be used.
It’s also worth reminding users who bind Alipay and WeChat Pay as their payment methods in the AppStore that the small-amount password-free payment feature will be automatically enabled, for example, Alipay’s AppStore small-amount password-free payment limit is 1000 yuan.
Once the small-amount password-free payment is enabled, it's more convenient to make purchases in the AppStore without confirmation. However, there have been incidents of fraud using this feature, involving the unauthorized purchase of virtual goods worth up to 1000 yuan through stolen Apple ID account passwords via Alipay and WeChat Pay.
For most users, the 1000 yuan password-free payment limit in the AppStore is quite high. It’s advisable for users utilizing these payment methods to adjust the password-free payment limit to minimize potential losses in the event of security issues.
