Data reveals that Microsoft Edge's market share has soared to 13.74%, more than double that of Mozilla Firefox.
In the last two years, Microsoft's Edge browser has seen a rapid rise in market share. Despite Microsoft's various promotional efforts following its initial launch, the browser's market share saw little to no increase. However, the introduction of new features in recent years appears to have attracted a significant number of users.
According to the latest statistics from Statcounter, as of July 2024, Microsoft Edge's market share has climbed to 13.74%, a year-over-year increase of 2.98% from 10.76% in July 2023, and a month-over-month rise of 0.39% from June 2024.
This increase is substantial for Microsoft, especially considering that about three years ago, the browser's market share hovered around 7% to 8%, nearly doubling since.
While this data is impressive, it's even more striking when compared to Mozilla Firefox. Firefox's market share has slipped from roughly 7% to 8% in recent years to now stand at 6.64%, making Microsoft Edge's market share more than twice that of Firefox.
The rapid growth in Microsoft Edge's market share can be attributed to several factors, including its bundling with Windows 10/11, being set as the default browser, and making it harder to switch to other browsers as default.
In addition to these strategies, Microsoft Edge has been quick to introduce a host of new features and improvements. This push seems to have even influenced Google Chrome to accelerate its feature updates, a pace previously considered slow for Chrome.
Despite these shifts, Google Chrome remains the market leader in browser market share and is likely to maintain its top position in the coming years. Chrome's market share stands at a commanding 64.72%, over 4.7 times that of Microsoft Edge, its closest competitor.
Here are the main PC browser market shares:
