Microsoft Releases New Preview of Windows Server 2025 with an Adjusted Time Bomb: Urges Users to Update Promptly
Microsoft has recently introduced the Windows Server vNext Build 26280 version. Given that the RTM (Release to Manufacturing) version of Windows Server 2025 is nearing its launch, the new features included in these test versions are unlikely to be available in the initial release.
A significant aspect of this update is Microsoft's adjustment of the "time bomb." Previously, the expiration date for all Windows Server 2025 preview versions was set for September 16, 2024.
Users who continue to use the old versions will encounter a system pop-up reminder every four hours after September 16, indicating that the version has expired. These pop-up reminders cannot be fully disabled unless the system is updated.
However, starting from Build 26280, the time bomb for all upcoming preview versions is set for September 15, 2025. This means the current preview versions can be used for another year without encountering the time bomb.
Developers and IT administrators interested in trying out the preview can register for the Windows Server Insider Program and download the ISO image files, along with activation keys provided by Microsoft.
